Inspired by the traditional Māori fish hook, the Matau Earrings carry the symbolism of prosperity, strength, determination, and safe passage across water. Rooted in the cultural traditions of New Zealand, the Matau represents a connection to the ocean, resilience, and the journey through life.

One of Tribu’s earliest designs, the Matau Earrings return in a new interpretation. Originally handcrafted from organic materials, their distinctive silhouette has been reimagined in silver or gold-plated silver, preserving the spirit of the original design while introducing a contemporary, refined character.

This split earring design features a graceful hook at the front of the ear, with the curve continuing behind to create the illusion of a fluid shape wrapping the ear.

With their sculptural form and heritage redefined in silver, the Matau Earrings embody transformation, jewellery that connects the organic past with a modern edge.
Perfect for those who want the gauge-inspired aesthetic without stretching.

Jewellery with a story

Founded in London in 1998, Tribu was built on one simple idea: jewellery should mean something. Every piece we create is designed to express individuality, not trends - crafted for people who choose their own path and wear it with confidence.

From tribal roots to modern expression

Our early collections helped pioneer tribal-inspired jewellery with a modern edge. Over the years, that influence has evolved into designs shaped by sacred geometry, spirituality, yoga culture and urban gypsy style - blending heritage with contemporary form.

Designed to stand apart

We work with a wide mix of materials, organic woods, stones and shells combined with silver, gold and metals, pushing boundaries while staying true to our roots. Tribu exists to explore what jewellery can be, not what it’s expected to be.
