How nose jewellery fastens

Five fittings, and the one you choose matters more than the metal.

Seamless hoops. A continuous ring with no visible join. You ease the ends apart sideways, slide it through, then close them back together. The cleanest look we sell, and the largest part of this collection.

Nostril screws. A straight post with a curved tail that sits flat inside your nostril. The curve is what holds it; there's no back to lose down a sink. Fiddly the first time, secure every time after.

L-bends. A straight post with a right-angled tail. Easier in and easier out than a screw, which makes them the sensible pick if you change your jewellery often rather than leaving one piece in for months.

Studs. A straight post with a fixed end or push-fit back. The least fiddly fitting we make, and the flattest against the side of the nose.

Clickers. A hinged ring that clicks shut. No threading, no chasing a tiny ball across the bathroom floor.

Just been pierced? Ask the piercer who did it which fitting suits your anatomy before you change anything. Anatomy varies, and they can see yours.

Getting the size right

Two numbers do all the work.

Diameter is the measurement across the inside of a hoop, and it decides how close the ring sits to your nose. We stock 6mm to 12mm.

6mm to 7mm. Snug against the nostril, barely a gap.

8mm. Our most-stocked size. Close, with a little movement.

10mm. A hoop you notice, and so does everyone else.

12mm. The largest we carry. Deliberate, and not subtle.

Gauge is the thickness of the wire or post. This one isn't a style choice. It has to match the piercing you already have.

20g is 0.8mm · 18g is 1.0mm · 16g is 1.2mm · 14g is 1.6mm

Most nostril piercings in the UK are done at 20g or 18g. Septums usually sit thicker. If you don't know what you're wearing, take the piece to a piercer and have it measured. It takes seconds, and it's better than ordering twice.

The metals

Sterling silver. The largest part of this collection and the one people come back for. It darkens slowly with wear, which most people like and some polish away.

Gold-plated silver and rose gold-plated silver. Sterling silver with a gold layer over the top. Plated, not solid. We say so on every listing, because the colour does soften with time and you should know that before you buy rather than after.

Surgical steel, in plain, gold, rose gold and black finishes. Hard-wearing, easy to clean, and the least precious thing to lose.

Eighteen stones run through the range too, turquoise and amethyst being the ones that move fastest. If a metal has given you trouble before, read the listing and talk to your piercer about what suits you.

Common questions

What gauge is a nose piercing?

Most nostril piercings are done at 20g (0.8mm) or 18g (1.0mm). We stock 20g, 18g, 16g (1.2mm) and 14g (1.6mm). If you don't know your gauge, a piercer can measure it in seconds, and guessing usually means ordering twice.

What size nose hoop should I buy?

We stock 6mm to 12mm internal diameter. 8mm is our most-stocked size and sits close to the nostril with a little movement. Choose 6mm or 7mm for a snug fit, 10mm or 12mm for a hoop that reads as a statement.

What's the difference between a nostril screw and an L-bend?

Both are posts that sit inside the nostril with no back. A screw has a curved tail and holds very securely once it's in. An L-bend has a right-angled tail and is quicker to fit and remove. Screws suit people who leave one piece in; L-bends suit people who swap often.

When can I change my nose jewellery?
